Will Whirling Dervish Kamala Harris stop her twirling long enough on Friday for us to get to know who she really is?
Or better yet, will she find out tomorrow who she really is? Or who she is told to be?
She has been spinning so fast throughout her political career, it’s hard to imagine that this empty suit has any idea of her true identity.
She has been for everything and against everything at one time or another. Name some issue, as she’s been on both sides of it, depending on which way the wind was blowing. Sometimes it seems that she’s been on both sides of an issue simultaneously.
Once her handlers reveal to her who she really is, she probably won’t recognize herself.
All at once, she’ll be Joe Biden and not Joe Biden She’ll be progressive and centrist at the same time. Unless she’s stealing an idea from Donald Trump.
There are hardly enough synonyms to describe her now-you-see-it, now-you-don’t personage, although Merriam-Webster tries:
Reversal, change of heart, turnabout, about-face, turnaround, volte-face, U-turn, about-turn, denial, switcheroo, retraction, disavowal, renunciation, bait and switch, vacillation, recantation, indecision, repudiation, hesitation, reconsideration, wavering, wobbling, disownment, wabbling, second thought, retreat, irresolution, disaffirmance and shilly-shallying.
Oh, there’s more, for sure:
Equivocate, weasel, waffle, yo-yo, evade, shake, shun, hedge, eschew, fudge, elude, pussyfoot, dodge, bypass, duck, skirt, sidestep, shirk, cavil, circumvent, quibble and straddle.
Here’s one that’s new to me: “tergiversate” It means, “evasion of straightforward action or clear-cut statement : EQUIVOCATION; desertion of a cause, position, party, or faith.” Perfect.
Nailing her down has been as difficult as picking up a tomato seed.
Of course there’s an easier way to identify her. Figure out what Barack Obama, Eric Holder, Susan Rice or whoever the hell is running the show, err, country want her to be.
And so, we all wait breathless for zero-hour, d-day, or the second-, third- or fourth-coming of the unrevealing of Harris’ true self.
For the moment anyway.
