The "drones" over New Jersey: A good way for government to ignite conspiracy theories
It’s unbelievable that nobody seems to know for sure what is flying over New Jersey, New York and other places.
It’s also unbelievable that the federal government is so ho-hum and oh-well about it. Not to worry, we’ve been assured, even though it’s a mystery about what the hell those things are.
The New York Times reported that 50 were spotted in one night last weekend. Drones have been reported since mid-November flying over at least 10 New Jersey counties and New York City.
Federal agencies seem only to know what they’re not. Not military. Not unauthorized drones. They don’t “appear” to be threats to national security or civilian safety. Maybe they’re commercial aircraft. Whatever.
John Kirby, a National Security Council spokesman said the feds can’t even “collaborate” the sightings, whatever that means. All they have to do is look at the multiple videos taken by civilians to “collaborate” their existence.
What we have here is a great big “duh.”
Whatever is flying overhead is fertile ground for conspiracy theories. The Chinese are operating the drones from a ship off the coast. Or the Russians. Or aliens. It’s a revenge plot engineered by Trump. Or Biden. Or a scheme by someone who is planning a take-over of government by intentionally trying to create panic among Americans. It’s the “deep state.”
Kirby added another thing we don’t know. He said a “thorough analysis” of “very sophisticated electronic detection technologies provided by federal authorities” show they were not unauthorized drones. Which leaves the possibly that they are “authorized.” By whom? Don’t know that either.
Here is a staggering possibility: Maybe it’s the damn truth that the feds—the military, the Federal Aviation Administration, the intelligence agencies—truly have no idea what they are. They have the ability to track down and kill terrorists tens of thousand miles away, but they can’t identify something so obvious as those things whose navigation lights are flashing brightly for everyone to see in our own front yard.
If those things are so innocent, maybe whoever is running them can step forward with an explanation. The fact they continue to hide is not reassuring.
Elected officials—governors and U.S. congressmen—can’t get satisfactory answers. We depend on the unelected people in the deep or shallow state to provide those answers. That they can’t or won’t is perfect feedstock for the rise of wild or real plots to cripple or take over America.
This is truly an instance of WTF.
