Run, Nikki, run!
Donald Trump, the mouth that roared, is telling Nikki Haley to get out of his way and stop running for the GOP presidential nomination.
The balls on that guy.
If anything, he should drop out of the race to step aside for someone who, according to the polls, has a better chance of beating Joe Biden than Trump. That’d be Haley.
But more importantly, Trump and his disciples have no business telling other GOP candidates to drop out in the interest of “unity.” What does “unity” mean? Bending the knee to an opponent despite your belief that he’s a loser. Despite your political beliefs and principals.
Here’s the irony: If Trump keeps throwing fellow Republicans overboard, there will be fewer Republicans voting for him in the general election. Demanding some kind of purity from everyone in his party is a recipe for cutting his own throat.
Now there are reports that Haley is thinking of folding her campaign after the March 5 Super Tuesday primaries. If I can borrow a word from Biden, “Don’t. Don’t. Don’t.”
The punditry observes that her staying in the race is fool’s work. In effect, they agree with the Trumpers, that her presence pollutes the True Meaning of the Republican Party. Trump says she should “switch parties” because she is “essentially a Democrat.” Trump and his followers argue that every opponent is an elite, East Coast, establishment usurper. Scram. Get out of my sight. Sorry, Donald, you are now the GOP establishment. As arrogant as anyone from the GOP old school had been.
I once was a Democrat and after the party abandoned its foundational principles, I started voting Republican. So maybe I and people like me should take his advice and vote for the Democratic candidate. If they can find someone other than Biden (and his puppeteers) who fights for time honored American values.
