That isn’t some right-wing publication reacting to President Joe Biden’s devastating interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos. It was from Axios, which many people regard as liberal. It reported.
President Biden's interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos did little to tamp down mounting concerns from Democratic members of Congress about his ability to defeat former President Trump.
My own reaction was he’s dead meat.
Of course, that’s not the tune that the White House played. Its publicly funded apologist, National Public Radio, laughably responded that “He was better than in the debate,” while at least conceding ”..he didn’t show the facility and coherence that Democrats would have wanted to see.”
If he did better than he did in the debate, I must have missed how seriously bad the debate was for him.
The CNN chorus also tried the “better-than-the-debate” line. Democratic strategist David Axelrod couldn’t believe what he was hearin, from his CNN colleagues. This was after Biden said he’d get out of the race only if the “Lord Almighty” came down and told him to. Said Axelrod:
And some somebody really needs to be honest with [Biden] about it. It’s not, it can’t be the good Lord, but it should be people who love and care for him and his closest advisers, his portrait of where he is in this race doesn’t comport with reality.
Maybe Joe would listen to the God Lord, but I don’t think Dr. Jill would.
It wasn’t just the way that Biden stumbled through his answers that was so worrisome. It was the content of what he said that made it doubly troubling.
He said the pollsters “tell me” that the race is a tossup, when it’s not. He doesn’t “buy” that the polls show him trailing in the popular vote. Nor do they don’t show his approval rating was about 36 percent.
When Stephanopoulos asked.,“Did you ever watch the debate afterward?” Biden said, “I don’t think I did, no.” He doesn’t think so?!
If you want to really dig into the flood of his untruths and gaffs, check out Axio’s “Behind the Curtain: Biden's credibility crisis.” It said:
President Biden has lost more than broad Democratic support since his bad debate. He has bled credibility — with the media, lawmakers, top officials and even his own paid staff.
Axios lists item after item, falsehood after falsehood, shock and awe—from his own supporters about Biden’s devastatingly bad performance. A sample:
Lawmakers and top Democrats feel duped by Biden … his press office … his campaign co-chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg … his top aides. They all promised the president was sharper than ever.
The New York Times took a big gulp and admitted:
Numerous officials, lawmakers and strategists in President Biden’s own party increasingly see his candidacy as unsustainable — and their private anxieties are slowly but steadily spilling into public view, interviews with more than 50 Democrats this week showed.
Add to that, the Washington Post, major donors, congressmen and senators who see the writing on the wall and demand if not Biden’s withdrawal, at least a credible plan to go forward. (There is none, in my view.)
Senator Mark Warner, a well respected Democrat from Virginia, is organizing a private meeting to get him to leave. Rep. Mike Quigley, a Chicago Democrat, has joined Seth Moulton (D-MA), Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), and Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ). in calling for Biden to quit, More congressman are planning to “write a letter”
One major donor, Abigail Disney, the heiress of the Disney fortune, said that unless Biden quits, she’s stopping any more contributions to the entire Democratic Party.
Anybody who can’t figure out that Joe Biden is done for must be as deaf and blind, so removed from reality, so completely on another planet as Biden, his family and whoever the hell is his “inner circle.”
Whoever is running his campaign deserves a pat on the back from Donald Trump. Not in my memory have I witnessed such a botched campaign.
They proved that they are no better at running a campaign than they have been at running the country,
