Illinois voters don't get mad; they just get screwed
Gov. J.B. Pritzker remains a woke joke.
Ace political analysts are crediting a wrathful and enraged electorate for Donald Trump’s election as president. I can see that.
So, I’m greatly puzzled by how most Illinois voters still calmly accept the election and re-election of the same inept, greedy and corrupt politicians who are responsible for the state’s sorry state.
A few voters finally escaped the Democratic machine’s planation and voted not how the Blue State minions told them. But not enough to make a difference. More on that below.
Chicagoans long ago should have voted the bums out. But in the last mayoral election someone they rejected —Paul Vallas—has the chops and guts to right the ship. Instead, they elected Brandon Johnson, an inexperienced pawn of the Chicago Teachers Union. An inept, blind clown would do better.
Then there is Gov. J.B. Pritzker. Into his hands the voters have placed their trust. He’s been good at implementing a woke cultural agenda. Recent experience at the polls show that his kowtowing to the far left should end his hope to be elected president.
Yet he presses on, seemingly more interested in ensuring trans girls (i.e. boys born in the male body) can shower with high school girls. He promises to protect Illinois from the assault on the state’s trans and other woke laws.
Reacting to Trump’s election, Pritzker said he would try to work with the new the new president yet issued this warning:
This morning [the day after the election], our most vulnerable communities woke up to new uncertainty about their future, scared that their rights will no longer be protected, and unsure whether this nation still stands with them….To anyone who intends to come take away the freedom, and opportunity, and dignity of Illinoisans, I would remind you that a happy warrior is still a warrior. You come for my people, you come through me. [Emphasis added.]
That’s an image I’m struggling to suppress. Although I suppose “through him” is the only way you can go. Going around takes too long.
Maybe he should call up the national guard. Establish checkpoints along major highways so the evil Trump and his troops can’t get in to destroy “our most vulnerable communities.” Screen arriving passengers at O’Hare and Midway airports. Halt trains at the border to examine passengers’ papers..
From every corner far and near come warnings about the collapse of democracy and the end of civilization. Cataclysm awaits! Head for the hills! Apocalypse Now! Here’s one of the many false and exaggerated warnings:“Trump will take away everyone’s right to vote.”
Astonishing. Trump can’t end the right to vote. The founders built so many check and balances into government that it can’t happen. But, what the hell, doesn’t the Left have the right to spew that kind of “misinformation” to hustle votes. That’s as looney as the preposterous exhortation from the Far Right that fluoride must be banned from drinking water.
Fear of a “national ban” on gender-affirming care seems to be one of the worst fears. Never mind, the call for a so-called ban on gender-affirming care would only apply to children. And the call is for a policy that gives parents the right to know if not approve the surgical or chemical treatment of their kids.
Pritzker has no problem propagating the falsehoods. We can debate whether Trump is a “racist, misogynist, and a homophobe” as the governor charges. But Pritzker’s charge that Trump “thinks that if you’ve been raped or have had incest committed against you, that you should be forced to have that child.” That lie is beyond the pale.
Both Chicago and Illinois are close to financial destruction. Imagine, Thompson insisting that the Chicago School Board should borrow hundreds of millions dollars to pay for normal operations. If there ever was a recipe for complete and utter ruination, I can’t think of it.
But there is a ray of hope, even if it burns as bright as a single candle in a coal mine: In Illinois and Chicago, Trump and his agenda cut into the usual cascade of Democratic victories. Here are the details from Ted Dabrowski and John Klingner of Wirepoints:
The change that shook the nation was visible even in Illinois, perhaps one of the country’s most hostile media and political environments for Trump. Not only did Trump shrink the Dem margin of victory this year to nine percentage points – from 17 points in 2020 and 25 points in 2008 – he also performed better in both Chicago and the suburbs. Illinoisans’ support for Trump grew even as the media and political attacks on him, led notably by Gov. J.B. Pritzker, increased in intensity.
Is there hope that Illinois voters will finally see the light? Here’s Wirepoints again:
The big vote swing in Illinois shows people are increasingly rejecting the grievance politics of Pritzker and his party. And that’s lost on the governor. Instead, he’s content with growing the list of Illinoisans dependent on government…with an ever-bigger government that takes care of an ever-bigger number of aggrieved groups. That’s his thinking.
Illinois and Illinoisans won’t succeed until we flip that kind thinking – and the politicians and public policies that go with it – on its head.
The election results in Illinois show that someday soon, it just might be possible.
One can hope.
Pritzker is why we call it ILLAnnoy
