In the rare chance that a reporter got to ask President Joe Biden about the accusation that he and his son Hunter took $5 million bribes, the president responded, “Where’s the money?”
Okay, let’s search for the money. He thinks we’ll assume that it’s piled in not-so-hidden boxes in his garage, like his purloined classified documents. Or stashed in a secret off-shore bank account.
Naw. It’s sitting there in real estate, in his luxurious mansions. Here’s the full list according to “Town and Country” magazine:
Greenville, Delaware:
In 1996, Biden purchased four acres of secluded, lakefront land in the upscale suburb of Wilmington, Delaware, and built this 6,850-square-foothome. According to Zillow, the lot was purchased back then for $350,000 and the property is now estimated to be worth more than $1 million, though a real estate expert put that figure closer to $2 million
Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
In the summer of 2017, the Bidens bought a house on the Delaware Shore for $2.7 million. Overlooking Cape Henlopen State Park and just a couple blocks from the beach, the three-story home has six bedrooms, expansive porches, views of the Atlantic Ocean, and a backyard built for entertaining, with an outdoor kitchen, BBQ, and fireplace.
Former home: Greenville, Delaware
In 1974, as a young senator and recent widower…Biden purchased this former DuPont mansion in tony Greenville for $185,000. He nicknamed the 10,000-square-foot house 'The Station,' and it became the campaign headquarters for his first presidential run in 1988. In 1996, Biden sold the house for $1.2 million.
For decades, Biden described himself as the poorest U.S. Senator. He cast himself as just another ordering, middle-class, working jamoke.
His story is that he has invest his money in real estate. And how. Living high in his mansions occupied by, I suppose, the nation’s top “one percent.”
It’s curious how the media sniffed out gorgeous estates owned by other presidents, especially when they are Republicans. The exception is Harry S Truman who lived through his political career and in his retirement a modest home in Independence, Missouri. But then, Truman was a special kind of president.
Chicago has some examples of similar lucky-on-real estate pols who live in homes that appear above their salaried means. Legendary columnist Mike Royko once observed that he opposed every proposed aldermanic raise because if they can’t steal enough to make a good living, they don’t deserve a raise.
Could Biden have squeezed enough money from his years of public service to afford these castles? Maybe. But enough evidence (evidence that the Justice Dept. and the FBI ignore) that a closer look at those transactions is required. A real forensic audit with complete disclosure. While they’re at it, they should look at other valuable real estate him might own.
But why him? Because no other president and his family in living memory have managed to accumulate so much documentation that leaves so much stink.
