Palestinian refugees fleeing their homes in 1948 when Israel was created.
You’d think that Egypt, Jordan or other Arab nations, in a show of unity and compassion, would allow besieged Gaza refuges a place that’s safe from Israeli rockets and bombs.
After all, aren’t they all Muslims, sharing the same heritage and religion?
Well, they are, but they won’t open their gates for Gaza refuges. With all routes to escape the violence closed, more than a million people are locked in the 25-mile-long strip of land called Gaza. No escape from death, destruction and carnage.
In effect, Gaza is a prison from which inmates cannot escape. While Israel advises civilians to get out of the way of advancing forces seeking to destroy Hamas, the refuges have no place to go. That’s a fact that the knee-jerk protestors, especially the violent ones, have ignored. Contrary to their bumper-sticker slogans, the Arab neighbors also must shoulder some of the blame for the misery.
So, why would fellow Arabs and Muslins slam shut the door so cruelly?
An AP story explains the various forces at work. Among the explanations:
Arabs say they believe that Israel wants to boot out all the Arabs from Gaza and the West Bank so that Israel can take all that land for itself. So those Palestinians must stay where they are.
A mass migration of Palestinians to neighboring countries would include militants whose continuing attacks on Israel could endanger the decades-old peace treaty between Israel, Egypt and Jordan.
Newly arrived Palestinians might remain permanently. Egypt and Jordan say they already have too many of them. Egypt says it hosts 9 million refuges, including 300,000 Sudanese fleeing their own war.
When Palestinians fled or were forced to leave their homes, history has demonstrated that they are not allowed to return.
Or course, if Hamas had not butchered Israelis, no one would have to go anywhere.
So, the stunner is that all those protestors who see only one side suffering in this war—the Hamas-governed Gazans—seem to agree by their silence that the borders must stay locked. Making those protestors sinfully short of compassion.
How odd. The far left that has no problem with millions of refuges (including criminals and sex traffickers) flooding into America across our Southern border appear little concerned about a closed Middle East border to bestow a safe place for those whose lives are in imminent danger.
